How Daraz and LAAM sellers should manage their bookkeeping in Pakistan

Why marketplace payouts do not match your sales, and a monthly routine to reconcile settlements, fees, returns and tax.

If you sell on Daraz or LAAM, your bank balance and your sales report almost never match. Payouts arrive after commission, fees, shipping adjustments and returns, often in batches that mix many orders. Without a routine, the gap grows every month. This is the routine we use for our own e-commerce clients.

Why payouts do not match sales

  • The marketplace deducts commission and fees before paying you.
  • Returns and cancellations reverse earlier sales, sometimes in a later month.
  • Payouts cover many orders, and the statement is the only way to see which ones.
  • Marketplaces may withhold tax from your payments. Ask for the withholding statements and keep them, because they matter when you file.

A monthly routine

  1. Download every settlement statement for the month and the sales and returns reports.
  2. Record gross sales, not net payouts, as revenue.
  3. Record commission, fees and shipping charges as separate expenses, so you can see what each channel really costs.
  4. Record returns as reversals of sales, in the month they happen.
  5. Match each payout to the bank. Every deposit should tie to a statement, and every statement to a deposit.
  6. Investigate differences. Missing orders, wrong deductions and unpaid returns are the usual causes.
  7. Count stock and compare it with what your records say should be on hand.

Mistakes we see most often

  • Booking the net payout as revenue, which hides fees and understates sales.
  • Ignoring returns until the year end.
  • Mixing marketplace money with personal spending.
  • Not keeping withholding statements, then being unable to claim credit.
